Google voice medical search

The mobile tech world is abuzz with the unveiling of version 2 of Google’s mobile OS – the android “Eclair”. More handset models running android are becoming available and I think it is only a matter of time before we see a decent number of medical apps for Android.
I came across this impressive video by Bill Koslosky (the Wireless Doc) which demo’s a medical search using Google Voice search on the HTC Hero smartphone:

You gotta admit, it’s pretty impressive!
I did play around with a HTC Hero but overall I feel WebOS has a better interface. But Palm watch out – Android is getting better and better!

  1. Palm’s WebOS might be superior (after all it is apple engineered ;-) ), but with 5% or less of market share and only one GSM device, not available int he Asia Pacific market for another *year*, you have to be wondering whether Palm will survive. Android might be technically inferior but they have several handset manufacturers releasing handsets. We all know technical superiority does not necessarily beat numbers or cash (a la Windows Mobile)

I really want to like Palm, they made my first PDA after all, but once again they are making some dumb decisions. I was going to get a Palm Pre despite all the warnings about build quality and battery life, but now Palm have decided the Asia-Pacific market can wait a year my next phone will probably be a Moto/HTC Droid whilst I wait for the next iPhone revision (which will have to be something special to one-up android)

The hero isn’t really a fair comparison with eclair, it runs 1.5 and has a 528MHZ processor which isn’t up to par. The reviews of the moto droid and 2.0 look like many of the flaws of 1.5 have been fixed and the speed is markedly improved.

  2. by the way, you can try the same search on the google app for iphone and achieve the same result. The example is not a good one for Android’s benefits over other os’es. This is a nice video of android 2.0 though:
