I am drooling over this….

Access Linux Platform or ALP was originally Palmsource, the software arm of Palm when it split from the parent company. Palmsource was bought up by Access, a Japanese company. ALP is a next-gen mobile operating system which is based on Linux but has a Palm compatibility layer so basically all your old Palm applications should run.
The problem for ALP is that there have been no hardware manufacturers which have adopted ALP as the OS. Until now.
The picture you see is the Emblaze Mobile Edelweiss, an ALP powered phone, manufactured by Sharp and designed by Emblaze Mobile, an Israeli start-up. According to Brighthand, the phone will be launched soon in Russia. Now why am I drooling over this? Just take a look at the specs:

I guess it remains to be seen how well this phone performs but if it does, and with these features I think it might be an iPhone killer. I don’t know what the Palm Nova device will be like in 2009, but if the Nova’s hardware specs don’t come close to Edelweiss’, it’s Bye-Bye Palm, Hello Emblaze!

  1. hmm but what are the chances of that device being available here.
Looks good and all but availability is an issue.

  2. No idea but I certainly hope it will eventually be available!

  3. It certainly looks decently good on paper. The question is – when?
